Electronic identification in pigs

The new technologies in livestock is making possible a new vision and concept in working with animals.

Therefore, in the case of Iberian pig, it also adds a very high added value.

The implantation of a microchip in the back legs of the animal, when the animal is a piglet, allows the control of the animal during its life, associated to the automatic work (weighing, feeding troughs, classification, etc). Then, it is used in the industry to control the jams (fresh weight, dry weigh, day of slaughter, etc.). And, finally, the consumer by means of the microchip reading can know in internet all the data of the jam he/she has bought, animal racial purity, kind of food, etc. .

Usually is used 2x12 microchip

To sum up, it is the AUTENTIC TRAZABILITY because the microchip is implanted when the animal is with its mother and this identifier, WITHOUT any possibility of handling, remains along the all processes. As there is not reidentification among the different processes, there is not possibility of error.

For the final breeding sow identification process, a bigger microchip should be used; 3x15mm. The microchip is implanted in the root of its tail, right in the middle of it and the implanter handgun should be placed in parallel with the ground.

Before implanting the microchips, you should apply, in the inoculation zone, some sort of disinfectant. First of all, it must be verified that the animal has not been identified yet.

In order to verify it, you should use a reader. To be sure that the animal has been correctly identified, after implanting the microchip, the inoculation zone should be scanned once again with the reader Due to security reasons, it is advisable not to use the same needle in more than 25 animals at a time.
